The multi-country meta-analysis will include over 1 million people
The INC Executive Committee recently approved funding for the NUTPOOL study, an initiative that emerged from the historic NUTS 2022 gathering of international researchers at the INC headquarters late last year. The aim of the study is to provide a high-quality assessment of the association of total nuts and specific types of nuts in relation to a wide range of chronic diseases.
A first of its kind, NUTPOOL will be a three-year, multi-country meta-analysis involving over 1 million participants, thereby providing a representative view of the worldwide population. It will be the first prospective study on nuts and health outcomes that will standardize the analytical approach by using individual participant data (IPD) meta-analyses rather than meta-analyzing the published literature.
NUTPOOL will be groundbreaking for the nut and dried fruit industry, providing associations of total and specific types of nut consumption and the risk of chronic diseases, namely type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and mortality. The extensive data generated by the study will support further health research and health claims in multiple markets.
