The aim of this study was to evaluate the existing scientific evidence on nut consumption and biomarkers of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular events. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were searched in Pubmed. 14 meta-analyses were included in the review. Results reported significant reductions for total cholesterol. In addition, higher intakes of nuts were associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. In conclusion, the review showed that nut consumption was associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension, and lower levels of total cholesterol.
