Canada’s Food Guide is being revised to reflect new evidence and meet the needs of various audiences. The public consultation is open for comments until December 8, 2016.The guide provides practical healthy eating recommendations based on scientific evidence to help people make informed food choices. However, it has been found that the current format of the guide is not meeting the needs of all audiences and some users have difficulties understanding and applying some of the recommendations. Eating well with Canada’s Food Guide currently recommends 2 or 3 servings per day, in case of female and male respectively, of any of the foods in the group “Meat and Alternatives”, which includes peanut or nut butters, shelled nuts and seeds, among others. According to the guide, the intake recommendation for shelled nuts and seeds is 60mL (1/4 cup) or 30mL (2 Tbsp) for peanut or nut butters.More information
