The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan has notified the World Trade Organization of the “Revision of the Standards and Specifications for Foods and Food Additives under the Food Sanitation Act (revision of agricultural chemical residue standards)”.The document establishes changes to the maximum residue levels (MRL) for the following pesticides:

  • The MRL for abamectin in prune and apricot is maintained at 0.09 ppm; in grape is increased from 0.01 to 0.05 ppm, and in pecan, almond, walnut and other nuts is maintained at 0.01 ppm.
  • The MRL for chinomethionat in prune and apricot is maintained at 0.5 ppm, in grape is lowered from 0.1 to 0.01 ppm, in pecan is lowered from 0.3 to 0.01 ppm, in almond and walnut is lowered from 0.1 ppm to 0.01 ppm and in other tree nuts is lowered from 0.02 ppm to 0.01 ppm.
  • The MRL for cyflumetofen in prune is maintained at 1 ppm, in apricot is maintained at 10 ppm and in pecan, almond, walnut and other nuts is set at 0.01 ppm.
  • The MRL for mepanipyrim in apricot, prune and date is lowered from 20 to 0.01 ppm and in grape is maintained at 15 ppm.
  • The MRL for prohexadione-calcium in peanuts is increased from 0.6 to 1 ppm, in prune, apricot, date and grape is lowered from 2 to 0.01 ppm and in pecan, almond, walnut and other nuts is lowered from 0.05 to 0.01 ppm.
