This annual publication offers a decade-in-review of global production, trade, and consumption trends for nuts and dried fruit.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you will find inside the publication:
- Production Growth: Global tree nut production has continued its upward trajectory, reaching 6.02 million metric tons in 2024/25 on a kernel basis (pistachios reported in-shell) and projected at 5.93 M MT for 2025/26. Output has nearly doubled compared with 2015/16, although the pace of expansion has moderated in recent seasons. Peanut production also showed a growing trend, rising from 41.74 M MT in 2015/16 to a record 51.81 M MT in 2024/25, with a similar level anticipated for 2025/26. Dried fruit production hovered around 3 M MT over the period, adding up to 3.24 M MT in 2024/25 and an estimated 3.14 M MT for 2025/26. The USA remains the leading tree nut producer with 34% of global output in 2024/25, followed by Türkiye at 14% and China at 13%. China and India continued to dominate peanut supply, contributing 36% and 14%, respectively. In dried fruits, Iran, the USA, and Türkiye each accounted for 7% of world production.
- Trade: The USA was the main exporter of tree nuts in 2024, supported by large shipments of almonds, walnuts, and pistachios. India, Argentina, and the USA led global peanut exports. In dried fruits, Türkiye continued to hold a leading position in exports of dried grapes, figs and apricots. The USA also stood as the top supplier of cranberries and prunes. Asia and Europe were the principal import regions across all the categories
- Consumption: Almonds were the most consumed tree nut in 2024, accounting for 28% of global consumption, followed by walnuts at 21%, cashews at 18%, pistachios at 17%, and hazelnuts at 10%. Asia was the primary consuming region with 47% of total demand, ahead of Europe with 30%, and North America with 16%. As for dried fruits, dried grapes and dates continued to dominate world consumption with shares of 39% and 37%, respectively. Asia led dried fruit consumption with 49%, supported by strong demand in Southern and Western Asia, while Europe and Northern Africa were also key consuming regions.
