The INC has joined a Codex Alimentarius electronic working group tasked with reviewing the Code of Practice for the Reduction of Acrylamide in Foods.

As background, in 2025, the 18th Session of the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Foods (CCCF18) agreed to re-establish the working group to propose revisions to the Code, noting that the technical advancements in acrylamide mitigation strategies and existing information in the literature were sufficient to support such a revision.

To support this work, in September 2025, the Codex secretariat called for data and more information on mitigation measures that have been proven to be feasible and effective for application for local and/or regional conditions to reduce acrylamide contamination in foods.

The working group will revise and refine its proposed draft throughout the spring of 2026, with a view to submitting a final draft for consideration by CCCF19 in October 2026.
