On 26 October 2016, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the 2014 European Union Report on Pesticide Residues in Food, which provides a detailed picture into the official control activities performed by EU member States, Iceland and Norway.EFSA concluded that the control system implemented for pesticide residues in food is efficient. The 97.1% of the 82,649 samples analyzed in 2014 were free of residues or contained residues within the legal limits.The pesticides that most frequently exceeded the legal limits were: spirotetramat, metrafenone, tricyclazole, etoxazole, bifenazate, ametoctradin, fluopicolide and trimethyl-sulfonium.As for unprocessed products, tree nuts are not among the food products with most frequent MRL exceedance rates.
