Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) launched a call for submissions on Proposal M1014 – Maximum Residue Limits, which seeks to align maximum residue limits (MRLs) in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) so that they are consistent with other national regulations.
 
As for nuts and dried fruits, the proposed MRL changes are the following: 

  • The MRL for carbaryl in prunes, tree nuts [except macadamia nuts; pecan] and tree nuts (whole in shell) is deleted.
  • The MRL for chlorantraniliprole in peanuts is set at 0.06 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for chlorfenvinphos in peanuts is deleted.
  • The MRL for clopyralid in cranberries is set at 4 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for cyflumetofen in tree nuts is set at 0.01 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for dichlorvos in peanuts and tree nuts is deleted.
  • The MRL for fenamiphos in peanuts is deleted.
  • The MRL for fenpyroximate in cranberries is set at 1 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for fenvalerate (esfenvalerate) in almonds is set at 0.2 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for flonicamid in cranberries is set at 1 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for flubendiamide in almonds is set at 0.06 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for fluopyram in cranberries is set at 2 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for Fosetyl-aluminium (Fosetyl-al) in cranberries is set at 0.5 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for hexythiazox in almonds is set at 0.3 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for inorganic bromide in almonds is set at 200 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for iprodione in almonds is increased from 0.02* to 0.3 ppm.
  • The MRL for metalaxyl in cranberries is set at 4 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for methamidophos in peanuts is deleted.
  • The MRL for norflurazon in cranberries is set at 0.1 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for 2-Phenylphenol in prunes is deleted.
  • The MRL for rimosulfuron in almonds is set at 0.01 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for spinetoram in almonds is set at 0.1 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for tebuconazole in tree nuts [except almonds] is set at 0.05 ppm (new).
  • The MRL for trifloxystrobin in peanuts is set at 0.05 ppm (new) and in walnuts at 0.04 ppm (new).

The deadline for submissions was July 25, 2017.
