Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases now exceeds 232 million and the number of deaths is more than 4.7 million. The vaccination campaign continues and more than 6.19 billion doses have been globally administered at a ratio of about 29.2 million jabs per day.

For the second week in a row, the numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths have declined. No region reported any increase in weekly case incidence, and only the Western Pacific Region reported an increase (7%) in the number of deaths. The cumulative number of cases reported globally is now over 228.8 million and the cumulative number of deaths is almost 4.7 million.

The new cases reported globally in the past week have declined after more than two months. All regions reported decreases in new cases and in the number of deaths –except Africa where the number of weekly deaths increased by 7%.
