Donald Tusk, President of the European Council; Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission; Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia holding the Council Rotating presidency and Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) during the 16th European Union (EU) – Canada Summit held in Brussels, Belgium, on 30 October 2016.Negotiations on the trade agreement between the EU and Canada, that were initiated in early 2009, have been concluded and authorized by the European Council to its signature. The agreement will be provisionally applied; subject to the European Parliament consent to its conclusion and pending ratification of the Member States.According to the European Council, once fully implemented, CETA will bilaterally remove over 99% of the customs duties, facilitating trade between the two parties upon a vast range of services and goods, including agricultural production.More information
