According to the European Federation of the Trade in Dried Fruit & Edible Nuts, Processed Fruit & Vegetables, Processed Fishery products, Spices, Honey (FRUCOM), the European Commission has approved a number of amendments to aflatoxin controls (Regulation 884/2014).As previously announced in Newsletter No 188, the changes proposed were approved during the Standing Committee held on 13 October 2016.  The amendments to the Regulation 884/2014 were the following:

  • New products to be included:
    • Hazelnuts from Azerbaijan with a sampling frequency of 20%.
    • Peanuts from Argentina with a sampling frequency of 5%.
  • Reduction of sampling frequency:
    • Dried figs from Turkey from 20% to 10%.
    • Peanuts from India from 20% to 10%.
  • Increase the sampling frequency:
    • Hazelnuts from Turkey from random to 5%.
  • Clarification to be introduced:
    • The consignment is only allowed for transfer from DPE to DPI upon presentation of the CED duly completed as regards documentary checks (Article 9 (4) to Regulation 884/2014).
