As reported by the European Commission, the Protocol of Accession of Ecuador to the EU-Colombia/Peru Trade Agreement was signed on 11 November 2016 by the EU together with Colombia and Peru, pending the European Parliament consent in order to be provisionally implemented.Negotiations with the Andean community (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) extend back to 2009. The agreement between EU with Colombia and Peru was reached in 2010, signed in 2012 and has been provisionally applied since 2013. Meanwhile, Ecuador, after suspending its participation in 2009, resumed and concluded negotiations for its accession in July 2014. While Bolivia has not so far entered into negotiations to enter the agreement, it has the possibility to seek accession to it.Once fully applied, the agreement aims to facilitate goods and services trade and open up market opportunities on both sides through tariff elimination for industrial and fisheries products and facilitation of market access for agricultural products, among other measures.More informationProvisional (not-legally binding) text.
