On October 16, 2023, a Presidential decision published in the Official Gazette of Türkiye raised the tariff rate on walnuts and almonds, effective as of November 1, 2023. The customs duty rate for almond and walnut imports into Türkiye from all sources except for the United Arab Emirates will increase to 15% (up from 2% for almonds and 4% for walnuts). Moreover, the additional fixed duty was increased from US$452 to US$580 per metric ton of in-shell almonds, from US$818 to US$942 per MT of shelled almonds, from US$307 to US$416 per MT of in-shell walnuts and from US$573 to US$1,099 per MT of shelled walnuts.

Turkish imports of almonds and walnuts from the UAE will be subject to a 1% and 2% customs duty, respectively, as well as additional fixed duties of US$226 per metric ton of in-shell almonds, US$409 per MT of shelled almonds, US$153.5 per MT of in-shell walnuts and US$286.5 per MT of shelled walnuts, pursuant to a Presidential decision of August 30, 2023.

In addition to the newly announced tariffs, Turkish imports of walnuts and almonds from the United States will continue to be subject a 10% retaliatory duty imposed in response to the US Section 232 tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminum.
