As previously announced, the European Commission is discussing potential changes to the cadmium levels for different food commodities, including tree nuts and peanuts.
According to the European Federation of the Trade in Dried Fruit & Edible Nuts, Processed Fruit & Vegetables, Processed Fishery products, Spices, Honey (FRUCOM), the European Commission launched a stakeholder consultation on proposed changes to the cadmium maximum levels. The proposed maximum limit (ML) for cadmium in tree nuts and peanuts is 0.20 mg/kg. Currently, peanuts and tree nuts are exempted from cadmium ML (Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006).
