Bangladesh: Higher Tariffs on 330 Products Proposed to Reduce Imports
According to The Business Standard, the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission recommended capping imports by raising duties and tariffs on 330 non-essential items. The Tariff Commission’s list of non-essential goods includes several nuts and dried fruits such as pistachios, almonds, cashews, pine nuts and dried grapes.
China-Brazil: Agreement Signed to Boost Peanut Trade
As a result of the sixth meeting of the China-Brazil High Level Commission for Consultation and Cooperation (COSBAN), both countries have reached an agreement to boost cooperation in agricultural trade including corn, soybean meal and peanuts. Representatives welcomed the conclusion of the phytosanitary protocols for corn and peanuts, which will guarantee these Brazilian products access to the Chinese market.
India-Chile: The Chilean Walnut Industry Meets with Indian Authorities
During a series of meetings held with national authorities, the Chilean association of growers and exporters of walnuts (Chilenut) highlighted the importance of expanding the trade agreements established with India. Due to the size of its population and consumption habits, it is estimated that the consumption of Chilean walnuts and other agricultural products in India could easily grow, but to do so it is necessary to eliminate or reduce the current 100% tariff imposed on nuts and several agricultural products.
