The 54th Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR54) took place in Beijing, China, from June 26 to July 1, 2023. During the meeting, several new maximum residue limits (MRLs) were proposed for various commodities, including tree nuts, peanuts, prunes, dried grapes, peaches, nectarines and apricots. Furthermore, a proposal was made to revoke all existing Codex MRLs for diazinon. In addition, the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) will assess whether they should evaluate the impacts of pesticides on the human gut biome. Delegations also discussed about including environmental issues in the MRL setting process of CCPR.

Final decisions regarding the actions discussed at the CCPR54 will be made at the Codex Alimentarius Committee meeting scheduled to take place in late November 2023.
