The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has launched a public consultation on key proposals which include modernizing regulations and establishing a risk based approach to ensuring truthful and not misleading food labelling. These proposals represent the culmination of more than three years of work and are guided by principles that focus on outcome based rules, empowered consumers, responsive industry, risk-based intervention and improved compliance. The questionnaire is composed of three parts:
- Demographic information
- Background on the purpose of food labeling regulations and food compositional standards.
- Specific proposals to modernize regulations and establish a new approach for consumer values claims that appear on food labels.
The deadline to complete the questionnaire is February 28, 2017. More information
