The statement contains a summary of the main findings of the assessment related to human health. Due to the fact that the genotoxic potential of chlorpyrifos remains unclear, toxicological reference values could not be established. Moreover, significant uncertainties were linked to the neurodevelopmental toxicity study. A risk assessment for consumers, operators, workers, bystanders and residents cannot be conducted due to the absence of toxicological reference values, representing a critical area of concern for chlorpyrifos.

Based on the results, it is considered that the approval criteria which are applicable to human health as laid down in Article 4 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 are not met.

If the chlorpyrifos approval is not renewed, it will expire on January 31, 2020. Consequently, all the maximum residue limits (MRLs) will be lowered to the limit of analytical quantification.

Currently, the MRLs for chlorpyrifos in Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pine nuts, pistachios, apricots, grapes, dates, figs and peanuts is already 0.01* ppm; in almonds, pecans and walnuts is 0.05 ppm; in plums is 0.3 ppm; and in cranberries is 1.0 ppm.
