The main aim of this Regulation is to establish procedures and conditions to the bilateral safeguard clauses and other mechanisms for the temporary withdrawal of tariff preferences or other preferential treatment in Free Trade Agreements between the EU and certain third countries. The Annex of this Regulation implements specific provisions in the EU Agreements signed with Singapore, Vietnam and Japan.
On November 28, 2018, the EU Presidency reached a provisional agreement with European Parliament representatives to streamline the inclusion of safeguard measures in trade agreements (see previous post).
