China: New Quality Standard for Nuts

China’s General Quality Standard for Nut and Seed Food, issued on July 11, 2022, by the State Administration for Market Regulation, went into effect on August 1, 2023, according to a USDA GAIN report released on July 20, 2023. The new standard, which replaces the General Standard for Roasted Seed and Nuts (GB/T 22165-2008), provides terms and definitions, classification, technical requirements, inspection methods and rules, labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements for tree nuts and peanuts.

UK-Türkiye: Talks on New Trade Agreement

The United Kingdom and Türkiye announced on July 18, 2023, the intention to start talks on a new free trade agreement. The deal would replace the existing UK-Türkiye FTA, which was rolled over when the UK left the European Union.

USA: Agribusiness Trade Mission to Southeast Asia

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will conduct an agribusiness trade mission to Malaysia and Singapore on October 30-November 3, 2023. The Foreign Agricultural Service called for applications from US exporters who wished to participate in the trade mission with deadline August 2, 2023.

Besides, a report by the USDA on “Opportunities for U.S. Food Processing Ingredient Exports to Malaysia” predicts good prospects for US almonds, pistachios and walnuts in Malaysia.
