EU Court of Justice Concludes the Term ‘Milk’ Cannot be Used for Plant-Based Products

On June 14, 2017, the Court of Justice of the European Union concluded that the designations such as ‘milk’, ‘cream’, ‘butter’, ‘cheese’ or ‘yoghurt’ cannot be legally used to designate a purely plant-based products.

According to the European Federation of the Trade in Dried Fruit & Edible Nuts, Processed Fruit & Vegetables, Processed Fishery Products, Spices and Honey (FRUCOM), at the beginning of July the list of products subject to increased official physical controls at EU borders (Regulation 669/2009) will be modified.

The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency notified the World Trade Organization of the draft resolution regarding the active ingredients M48 – Metaflumizone, E24 – Spinosad, F47 – Fluazinam, C32 – Clethodim of the monograph list of active ingredients for pesticides, household cleaning products and wood preservers, published in Resolution RE n° 165 of 29 August 2003, Brazilian Official Gazette (DOU Diário Oficial da União) of 2 September 2003.
