57th Session of the Codex Committee Pesticide Residues (CCPR57)

September 24, 2026

The INC participated in the CCPR57, held in Beijing, China, from September 7-12, 2026. Discussions and decisions affecting nuts and dried fruits included the following:

  • Bifenthrin: CCPR57 agreed to advance all proposed MRLs for bifenthrin, including 1.5 mg/kg in cranberries, to Step 5/8 for adoption, noting reservations from the EU.

  • Clethodim: The four-year rule that had been applied to Codex maximum residue limits (CXLs) for this compound at CCPR52 (2021) expired in 2025, so a decision on whether to revoke or retain the CXLs was required. The INC representative, Dr. Gabriele Ludwig, mentioned that the data sponsor (UPL) could commit to provide data for toxicological evaluation by the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) in 2027. CCPR57 agreed to retain all CXLs for clethodim, including 5 mg/kg in peanuts, pending submission of data and a periodic review by JMPR.

  • Clothianidin/thiamethoxam: CCPR57 agreed to advance all proposed MRLs for clothianidin and thiamethoxam to Step 5/8 for adoption.

  • Methyl bromide: CCPR57 agreed that methyl bromide would no longer be managed as an unsupported compound, and further agreed to retain all proposed MRLs at Step 4 until JMPR conducts the periodic review of this compound.

  • Phosmet: CCPR56 (2025) agreed to retain the phosmet CXLs for the tree nuts group under the four-year rule. At CCPR57 (2026), these CXLs were further retained pending additional data submission and a full evaluation by JMPR.

  • Propylene oxide: Propylene oxide was included in the 2027 schedule for JMPR evaluations for a new use on tree nuts.

  • Pyriproxyfen: The JMPR Secretariat confirmed that the proposed MRL for subgroup of plums and dried prunes should be corrected from 0.15 mg/kg and 0.5 mg/kg respectively, to 0.3 mg/kg and 0.9 mg/kg respectively. CCPR57 agreed to advance all proposed MRLs for pyriproxyfen and to revoke the associated CXLs.

Final decisions regarding the actions discussed at CCPR57 will be made at the next Codex Alimentarius Committee meeting (CAC50), which will take place in 2027, dates TBC. Meeting documents.
