India, as Chair of the Electronic Working Group on the “Proposed draft maximum level for total aflatoxins in ready-to-eat peanuts and associated sampling plan”, presented a proposal for a maximum limit (ML) of 10 µg/kg for consideration by the Committee. The proposed ML is based on the outcomes of the JECFA83 Report and the results of two rounds of consultations between the participants of the EWG. In view of the lack of consensus on the recommendations of an ML of 10 or 12 µg/kg, the Committee agreed to:

  • Adopt an ML of 10 µg/kg for total aflatoxins in ready-to-eat peanuts (at step 4).
  • Launch a new call of data for aflatoxins in ready-to-eat peanuts so that JECFA can make another risk assessment in three years.
  • Reopen the discussion in three years.
