The Act seeks to protect the health of consumers from hazards; to establish the general principles of official controls and the requirements business operators; and to define the functions and powers of institutions of Federal and State Governments. The objective is to ensure that food and feed safety risks are effectively managed.
 
The Ministry also notified WTO of the Draft Food Hygiene Regulation 2017. This regulation shall apply to all establishments dealing with the preparation, processing, packaging, transportation, distribution, manufacturing, handling, storage or sale of food.
 
The deadline for comments is July 13, 2018.
