The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the Reasoned Opinion on “Review of the existing maximum residue levels for chlorpyrifos according to Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005”.Chlorpyrifos belongs to the group of organothiophosphate compounds which are used as acaricide, insecticide or nematicide. It is used in a wide range of crops against sucking and biting pests, including pests belonging to the Coleoptera, Diptera, Homoptera and Lepidoptera.Among others, the following recommendations were derived: replace the existing MRL in apricots at 0.05 ppm by 0.01* ppm and in plums at 0.2 ppm by 0.3 ppm. The following MRLs need further consideration: almonds, walnuts and pecans at 0.05 ppm. (* Indicates lower limit of determination).EFSA.
