EU Trade Liberalization Measures for Armenian Products Advance

September 24, 2026

The European Parliament adopted its first-reading position on September 15, 2026, on temporary trade-liberalization measures for Armenian products. The Council had already given its political backing to the proposal on September 2. The measures are intended to support Armenia following recent restrictions affecting its traditional export routes.

The proposal temporarily suspends import duties on a broad range of Armenian goods, including selected agricultural products. As noted in a previous INC update, products identified in the proposal include almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios, macadamias, pine nuts, dates, dried apricots, dried figs and prunes, while dried grapes are covered within a tariff-rate quota.

The measures are designed to apply for two years from entry into force and include conditions on rules of origin, administrative cooperation and safeguard mechanisms. The regulation will take effect once it is formally adopted and published in the Official Journal.
