Global Food Inflation Expected to Intensify as Supply Shocks Build

October 29, 2026

Global food-price pressures are expected to intensify into 2027 as multiple supply shocks converge across agricultural and logistics markets, according to Reuters. Conflict-related shipping disruption, drought linked to El Niño, elevated fertilizer and fuel costs, and weaker currencies are pushing up the cost of producing and moving food in several regions.

Disruptions around the Black Sea and the Strait of Hormuz are adding pressure to freight and input markets at the same time that inventories of some agricultural commodities are tightening. Food processors are facing higher input costs and supply-chain uncertainty, while consumers in a number of markets are responding to higher prices by reducing or changing purchases.
