In order to address the potential risk, Australia has implemented the following emergency measures:
- Raw or unprocessed peanuts including blanched peanuts produced in countries where peanut smut is recorded (Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia) must be inspected or tested.
- Temporary suspension of the importation of raw and unprocessed peanuts from Argentina to be processed in a facility located in a peanut growing area in Australia.
These emergency measures have been implemented to address the potential risk while Australia is reviewing the pest risk and the risk management measures.
The measures will enter into force on June 30, 2017.
