Mediterranean Diet and Pistachios May Reduce Incidence of Gestational Diabetes

This study evaluated the incidence of Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women following a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and pistachios. The study was published recently in PLoS One journal and observed that the incidence of GDM may be reduced with an early nutritional intervention based on the supplementation of the Mediterranean diet with an increased consumption of EVOO and pistachios.

Nut Consumption and Cardiovascular Health, New Study from Harvard

The study analyzed the associations between the intake of total and specific types of nuts and cardiovascular disease (CVD), coronary heart disease (CHD), and stroke risk. The study, which is the largest to date looking at the frequency of nut consumption and CVD, has been published recently in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

INC at the 9th Golden Cashew Rendezvous

The INC participated in the 9th Golden Cashew Rendezvous, represented by Mr. Michael Waring, INC Vice Chairman, on November 13-15, 2017, in Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. This is the annual meeting of the Vietnamese Cashew Association (VINACAS) and gathers about 500 participants from 40 countries to meet, review and discuss about the state of the cashew industry.

Highlights of the 21st International Congress of Nutrition

The International Congress of Nutrition of the IUNS (International Union of Nutritional Sciences) is held once every four years and attracts approximately 4,000 attendees from more than 120 countries. The 21st edition was recently held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 15-20. Participating in this event served a double purpose for the INC. On the one hand, it was the third time for the “Nuts for Gifts” booth to be displayed. The booth showcased the basic ideas of the “Nuts for Gifts” project: nuts as a highly-valued gift object and an opportunity to challenge one’s DIY abilities. “Nuts for Gifts” brochures and a mix of nuts and dried fruits samples were given to visitors.
