Spain: Application of a PDO for ‘Nuez de Pedroso’ Walnuts

On August 25, 2022, a new application was submitted and published in the Official Journal of the European Union for a protective designation of origin (PDO) for the ‘Nuez de Pedroso’ from Spain.

The publication states that ‘Nuez de Pedroso’ refers to walnuts harvested from plantations and individual trees of the Juglans regia L. species and presented for consumption as dried walnuts in their shell. ‘Nuez de Pedroso’ walnuts have high oxidative stability, which means they have a shelf life of more than a year without spoiling.

This publication confers the right to oppose the application pursuant to Article 51 of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council within three months from the date of the publication.
