The Netherlands Nutrition Centre has published an updated version of its “Wheel of Five,” a tool intended to help people eat healthily, sustainably and safely, based on the latest scientific insights.
The new wheel is broadly similar to its predecessor, recommending plenty of vegetables, fruit, legumes and whole-grain products, and not too much salt, saturated fat and sugar. The main changes are in the recommended quantities. Notably, the recommended daily serving of nuts—including both tree nuts and peanuts—has been increased from 25 to 30 grams/day.
The new “Wheel of Five” comes on the heels of the updated dietary guidelines published by the Health Council of the Netherlands in December 2025, which recommend that people consume 60% of their daily protein from plant sources, including 15-30 grams/day of unsalted nuts, up from the recommendation of 15 grams/day published ten years earlier.
